Help ‘Mow and Rake’ at Beford Park nature reserve this Friday

A range of volunteer opportunities are available at Bedford Park in Cefn and Frog Pond Wood in Pyle to help our natural spaces thrive.

Activities include

  • Mow and rake
  • Litter picking
  • Bulb planting
  • Wildflower seed sowing
  • Coppicing Hazel
  • Dormouse box making
  • Cutting back vegetation
  • Tree planting

This month’s event is ‘Mow and Rake’ and will be taking place tomorrow, Friday 25 October, 10am – 2pm at Bedford Park.

Wear warm clothes and weatherproof boots. All tools and training will be provided, along with tea and coffee.

Local florist’s Christmas wreath making workshop at Cefn’s Green Hall

Dust off your Santa hats! Local florist Jo’s Flowers will be holding a Christmas wreath making workshop on Wednesday 27th November at Cefn’s Community Centre (the Community Centre) at 6.00-8.00pm.

Jo will supply everything you need to make your Christmas wreath, feel free to take snippets from your own garden and add that to your own wreath too.

Festive nibbles and drinks will be included in the cost. The total cost is £40 per person and there are a just a few spaces available so please get in touch with Jo asap to avoid disappointment, the deposit is £20.

 

Porthcawl to host Wales’ largest ever women’s sporting event

2025 will see history being made when the iconic AIG Women’s Open golf championship comes to Wales for the first time.

Royal Porthcawl Golf Club will host what will be the largest women’s sporting event to be played in Wales from 30 July to 3 August 2025, attracting the best women golfers from around the world.

 

Martin Slumbers, CEO of The R&A, commented, “The AIG Women’s Open is a world class championship which attracts the best players in the world. The famous Welsh links has a cherished history of hosting prestigious championships and the players will enjoy the challenge of competing for the AIG Women’s Open at another outstanding venue.

“It will be the largest women’s sporting event to be played in Wales and we hope to attract many Welsh sports fans, and those from further afield, to come and enjoy a true celebration of golf.”
