Poppy wreaths from Bridgend make their way to London

Red Plastic Poppy Flowers Remembrance Wreaths at War Monument

Veterans and representatives of the armed forces were joined by the Council Leader Huw David, the Deputy Mayor Cllr Heather Griffiths, Armed Forces Champion Cllr Martyn Jones, Bridgend Town Council Mayor Cllr Freya Bletsoe, and The High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan Jean White to send wreaths on the ‘Poppy Train’ to be placed at the Paddington Station war memorial as part of a national display of poppy wreaths, on behalf of the people of Bridgend County Borough, to mark Armistice Day 2023.

Organised by Great Western Railway (GWR) network, ‘Poppies to Paddington’ started during the pandemic in 2020, with the aim of taking wreaths from as many local communities as possible to Paddington Station. Meaning that communities from across the Great Western network could be represented in their annual service of remembrance at the War Memorial in the station.

On Sunday 12 November, there are Remembrance Day events taking place across the county borough. Please visit the council’s website for more information.
