Welsh Furniture Recycling Charity, Community Furniture Aid (CFA), were invited to attend the Corporate Social Responsibility awards at St Paul’s Cathedral last month, where they were named National CSR Champion in the service industries-waste management sector for their project, which furnishes homes for the poorest in society while reducing waste.
CFA was founded by volunteers from a church group nearly a decade ago, and focuses on alleviating poverty and environmental impact in Bridgend and surrounding areas. The charity provides furniture and household items to those in need and promotes waste reduction through recycling and reuse.
Operating self-sufficiently, CFA continues to expand its reach, aiming to inspire similar initiatives globally to benefit disadvantaged communities and the environment.
CFA are also collecting their Green world champion award, one of the highest honours in the green world awards which were presented in Brazil this year.
The charity has saved approximately 500 tonnes from going to waste and has been embraced by the community. They continue to support the community, train ex-prisoners and inspire similar initiatives nationwide and hope to now take this a stage further by becoming Green world ambassadors, teaching others around the world how their programme can change lives.
CFA’s efforts in waste reduction not only support the impoverished but also contribute significantly to environmental sustainability by diverting items from landfills.
