Which Welsh Workplaces Must Have a Qualified First Aider on site?

Legally, your workplace must have a certified first aider at work if you are in a high-risk environment (such as a factory, warehouse or kitchen) and have 5 or more employees.

If you are in a lower-risk workplace such as an office and have less than 25 members of staff, you legally require an appointed person who should be in charge of first-aid arrangements, should they be needed.

However, whether you are required to have a first aider or not, first aid treatment is essential to preserve life, prevent deterioration, and promote recovery and having a qualified first aider in your workplace is a potentially life-saving asset.

Which course is most appropriate for my team?

  • A 1-day Emergency first aid at work course offers first aid training for a first aider working in small workplaces or low-risk environments, such as an office.  This will cover the core emergencies that can occur within a typical place of work.
  • A 3-day First aid at work qualification is designed for larger workplaces with more people or higher-risk environments such as a kitchen, factory or warehouse and will include a wider range of illnesses and emergency situations, covering topics like hyperventilation, heart attack and stroke victims.
  • The 2-day First Aid Refresher course is for first aiders who need to renew their existing qualification.
