Council takes action following complaints over housing development

Officers from Bridgend County Borough Council and the Shared Regulatory Service are monitoring the development of 57 new homes on the site of a former school in Newton, Porthcawl after receiving complaints from local residents.

The 2.5 hectare development is being constructed by Taylor Wimpey UK on land that previously formed part of St John’s School, which closed down in 2014.

When complete, it will consist of nine three-bedroom houses, 40 four-bedroom houses and eight affordable homes.

Following the complaints, site visits have been carried out and the developer has been provided with a number of actions that must be undertaken to avoid breaching approved planning conditions.

These include installing a wheel-wash facility to overcome the issue of mud on the highway, and the use of boundary boarding and water cannons to prevent problems with dust.

Officers also arranged for a survey to be carried out on the health of trees at the site, and noted that some measures had already been undertaken to protect them from damage.

The site is currently being monitored closely for compliance, including hours of construction, and if required, further action will be taken.
