Registration is open for the council’s garden waste collection service which is returning this spring.
The council’s waste partner Kier is offering the chance for 100 Bridgend county borough residents to win a free subscription for this year. The 100 winners will be randomly selected from those who sign up online for collections before 1 March 2021. Winners will be contacted by Kier to offer them a refund on their payment.
Garden waste is picked up every two weeks and collections will run from 15 March 2021 until 12 November 2021. Your garden waste collection day will be advised with the delivery of your sacks. Place your sacks on the kerbside between 7pm the evening before and 7am on the day of collection.
The Deputy Leader, Cllr Hywel Williams, said: “More than 2,000 residents have signed up so far for this year’s collections, which offers a convenient way to have green waste picked up from outside your property. Those who sign up will be provided with two bags and can recycle green waste such as plants, flowers, weeds, grass, leaves and hedge clippings.
“We are sometimes asked why residents have to pay for garden waste collections. We believe an optional scheme is fairer because not all homes in the county borough have gardens so those who want to receive the collections can choose to pay for them.”
Subscriptions are £38.30, or £34.30 for pensioners. Additional bags cost £5 each. To sign up, visit the Recycle for Bridgend website.
Garden waste can also be recycled free of charge at your nearest community recycling centre – find your nearest one on the council’s webpage.
