Bridgend Libraries offering collection and delivery services

Libraries in Bridgend county borough are operating a book and collect service for readers.

Residents can phone their local library during their opening hours to order the items they want and arrange a time to safely collect them.

Richard Hughes, Chief Executive of Awen Cultural Trust, which runs library services on behalf of Bridgend County Borough Council, said: “Our libraries are at the very heart of our communities and provide valuable services to local residents.

“The safety of our staff and borrowers remains our top priority and, in support of the level four lockdown restrictions which are now in place, our branches will remain closed but we will continue to offer our online, collection and delivery services. We hope this will allow people to access resources to work, study, educate or entertain their children at home, and read for their own enjoyment and wellbeing.

“As our most vulnerable and housebound members may not be able to physically access the libraries at this time, we have resumed our Books on Wheels service, to deliver books directly to their front door.”

Cabinet member for wellbeing and future generations Councillor Dhanisha Patel, whose portfolio includes libraries, said: “Our popular library services remain available to residents during the current level four restrictions. The book and collect service will be in place until further notice to help keep library users and staff safe.

“When you arrive to collect your books, please remember to social distance and wear a face covering, unless you are exempt.”

The Books on Wheels home delivery service for people who have difficulty getting out and about will be on the road making deliveries as planned. The service visits hundreds of people each month delivering books, DVDs and audiobooks.
