More roads, pavements and bridges in Bridgend County Borough are set to be resurfaced, repaired and improved as part of a £2.25m investment into the local highway network.
Using funding from Welsh Government and the council’s Capital Programme for 2020-21, the local authority are carrying out work on 44 local roads, eight footways and two bridges in communities all across the county borough.
Cllr Richard Young, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “Between now and March 2021, we will be investing £2.25m into the local roads network as part of our regular and ongoing programme of highways maintenance and improvement.
“The majority of this significant investment will involve a mix of resurfacing and renewal as well as associated repairs and drainage improvements. The roads have been identified through condition surveys, testing for skid-resistance and assessments conducted by highways inspectors as well as issues raised by the public and local councillors.
“In order to maintain social distancing, we have prioritised schemes which are largely in the more rural parts of the county borough or on main roads where there is little on-street parking, and will seek to complete residential streets later in the year.
“While this investment into the local highways network will cause some unavoidable disruption, every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience using a full range of traffic-control measures, including alternative routes, stop-and-go signage, traffic lights and more.
“All work will also be publicised well in advance so that residents are aware and can make any necessary arrangements.”
Streets where pavements are set for renewal include Bethania Street in Maesteg, Cefn Road at Cefn Cribwr, Ton Glas in Bryntirion, Pyle Inn Way, the High Street at Laleston, Protheroe Avenue in Penyfai, Adare Street in Ogmore Vale, and Cae Odin at Brackla.
Additional asphalt resurfacing work will take place at Waun Goch, Arnant Villas and Gwendoline Street at Nantymoel, Llwyn Gwern in Pencoed, Bradfield Road in Cefn Glas, and Heol Adare, Heol Caeglas and Heol Yr Afon in Ynysawdre, and works will also be carried out to dress road surfaces at Hendre Lane, Perry’s Lane, Tyla Lane, New Road and Aberbaiden Road.
Land above the carriageway along the A473 Tondu Road will be netted and restrained to ensure safety, and parapets will be replaced on the A4061 at North Vale View in Nantymoel.
The culvert located at the B4280 Penprysg Road in Pencoed will be replaced, and the A4061 Frithwaun / Frithwin bridges will be strengthened.
