Property or business owners in Bridgend town centre are being invited to apply now for grants of up to £250,000 to improve the appearance of their buildings.

Bridgend County Borough Council is working in partnership with the Welsh Government on the property enhancement project.

The grants are up to 70 per cent of the total eligible costs, up to a maximum of £250,000.

The Urban Centre Property Enhancement Fund can be used for:

–        Renovation of vacant properties

–        Shopfront and signage

–        Windows and doors

–        Internal and external structural works

–        Improved accessibility

–        Utilities and services

–        Welfare facilities

In return, business and property owners are being asked if they could create new jobs, safeguard existing jobs, create or safeguard a local business or create, refurbish or bring back into use non-residential premises.

Consideration may also be given for upper floor residential opportunities within the town centre.

The funding is available until March 2021 with the possibility of an extension into 2021/22.

Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Cllr Charles Smith said:

This investment opportunity aims to make businesses more attractive and accessible to customers, strengthen business activity and enhance the physical appearance of the centre, and create and retain local employment.

“It is also about protecting and sustaining local shops and services, and increasing footfall and activity in the town once it is safe to do so.

“We’re encouraging property or business owners to apply now to make the most of this grant scheme – grants can still be applied for and awarded at this time.”
