Less than 10 days to apply for EU Settlement Scheme

There’s now less than 10 days to go until the deadline of 30 June 2021 for applications to be made to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS).

The scheme, which is part of the UK’s new post-Brexit immigration system, offers citizens of the 27 EU member states, as well as Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, the right to keep living and working in the UK as they did when the country was part of the EU.

All EU, EEA and Swiss citizens and their family members who were resident in the UK by 31 December 2020, should apply without delay. Applications are free but must be submitted by the deadline of 30 June, 2021.

Apply to the scheme to continue to work, study, access free healthcare and benefits in the UK

If you need free, independent and confidential support applying for Settled or Pre-Settled Status, a number of services are available for anyone to access from community partners, including Citizens Advice, Mind Cymru, Newfields Law, Settled and TGP Cymru.

Bridgend Council Leader, Cllr Huw David said: “With less than 10 days to go now, this is an urgent call to all those who are eligible to apply now, and not to delay.

An application to the EU Settlement Scheme by 30 June 2021 secures your existing rights in UK law until you’re granted a status.

“So far, more than 1,500 applicants have been granted settled status in Bridgend County Borough and 620 applicants granted pre-settled status, depending on how long they have lived here.”

Across the UK, there have been over five million grants of pre-settled or settled status, allowing millions of citizens to continue to work, study, and access free healthcare and benefits in the UK after 30 June 2021.
