Families celebrate with a street party to launch new development in Bridgend

Tenants at Heol Loveluck in Bridgend recently organised a street to help to get to know one another and to celebrate the completion of the new development which has provided 48 much-needed affordable homes in the area.

Activities included a bouncy castle, body art, gladiator duel and sumo wrestler inflatables, street football and a range of lovely food including ice cream and a barbeque.

Developed by Hafod in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council and contractors Lovell, the scheme has provided 24 one and two-bedroom apartments, 23 two, three and four-bedroom homes and one specially adapted bungalow to rent.

Hafod’s Neighbourhood Coach, Danielle Gouge, works closely with the residents. She said:

“The community spirit in putting this event together has been brilliant and it’s given everyone an opportunity to get to know their neighbours more closely. I’m looking forward to continue working with our tenants and seeing the street flourish.”

Hafod, a not-for-profit social landlord, currently own and manage over 1,200 homes in the county borough. Cadwgan Thomas, Head of Development at Hafod said:

“It’s very pleasing to see how the transformation of this previously unused site has provided high quality homes for local people and how much they are enjoying being part of their community.

“Hafod is also proud to have supported the local area through a number of community benefits and employment opportunities during the build.”

Funded by Hafod and the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant and Housing Finance Grant, the £7.5 million investment is helping to meet the Welsh Government’s affordable housing targets in areas of high demand.

Cllr Dhanisha Patel, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing and Future Generations, said:

“It’s fantastic to see that together with Hafod and Lovell and with investment from Welsh Government, we have been able to provide new homes for local people who are in the greatest need.

“We are committed towards providing affordable housing for our residents across the county borough, and look forward to working in partnership in the future to deliver more homes.”
